چکیده

This paper investigates the effects of gear geometry, rotational speed and applied load, as well as lubrication conditions on surface temperature of high-speed gear teeth. The analytical approach and procedure for estimating frictional heat ̄ux and heat transfer coef®cients of gear teeth in high-speed operational conditions was developed and accounts for the effect of oil mist as a cooling medium. Numerical simulations of tooth temperature based on ®nite element analysis were established to investigate temperature distributions and variations over a range of applied load and rotational speed, which compared well with experimental measurements. A sensitivity analysis of surface temperature to gear con®guration, frictional heat ̄ux, heat transfer coef®cients, and oil and ambient temperatures was conducted and the major parameters in ̄uencing surface temperature were evaluated.

Life of Lubricated Machines

Seventy to eighty five percent of failures and wear problems in lubricated machines are caused by oil contamination. Contaminants shorten the life of all machines, especially those with fine finishes and clearances operating at high speeds and temperatures. Examples are rolling and sliding bearings, gears, vane and piston hydraulic pumps, Maintaining clean oil provides the benefits listed in Ta...

Investigating the Effects of Cold Bulge Forming Speed on Thickness Variation and Mechanical Properties of Aluminum Alloys: Experimental and Numerical

In this work, cold bulge forming of an Aluminium-Magnesium (Al-Mg) sheet with a solid bulging medium is performed experimentally and numerically.  Mechanical properties and thickness variations of Al-Mg sheet are evaluated before and after the forming process.  The results indicated that the Al-Mg sheet has taken the desired shape without necking using the cold bulge forming process.  Also, the...

II. TYPES OF GEAR LOSSES A. Speed Dependant Losses Windage losses: As gears rotate, lubricant is flung off the gear teeth in small oil droplets due to the centrifugal force

42 Abstract:In this study, a test methodology for measuring load-dependent (mechanical) power losses of helical gear pairs is developed. A high-speed four-square type test machine is adapted for this purpose. Several sets of helical gears having 3 different pressure angles are manufactured, and their power losses under dip lubricated conditions are measured at various speed and torque levels. A...

Experimental Performance Study of a High Speed Oil Lubricated Polymer Thrust Bearing

With the demand for turbomachinery to operate at higher speeds, loads, and power, fluid film bearings that support turbomachinery must be capable of operating in these more demanding applications. Thrust bearings operating at high speeds and loads can experience high surface temperatures and thin fluid film thickness. Typically, babbitt (white metal) is the bearing lining material for most turb...

Experimental Compression – Resorption Heat Pump For Industrial Applications

Wet compression resorption heat pumps are a promising type of heat pumps that operates with nonazeotropic refrigerant mixtures. The main differences, when compared to the classical Rankine cycle, are the nonisothermal phase transition of the mixture in the heat exchangers and the compression of the two-phase mixture in the compressor, which works as a gas compressor and at the same time as a li...
